July 5th Stated Meeting
by Paul Hahs

To all MCLEA Members,

First of all, I’d like to welcome all of the new MCLEA members to our Association. Thank you for becoming a part of this wonderful organization and we look forward to working for you. The more members we have, the better representation we can provide you.

Last night at 6pm MCLEA held the first stated meeting of the new Officers and Directors. I was happy to see several MCLEA members there, and I hope that more of you will attend in the future.  When you attend the meetings, we see your support firsthand and that really encourages us to keep working for you.

MCLEA Secretary Leslie McCauley has already put together the minutes of the meeting and they are posted on the website so that you can see what we discussed, and what goes on at the meetings. I will cover some of it here in this letter, but I encourage you to go to our website and review them yourself. If you aren’t already registered on to the website, please take a moment to do so. Make sure that you include a valid email address that you check regularly, since the website and email are how we communicate with our members.

In last night’s meeting I introduced my new committees and the Chairpersons of those committees.  The Fundraising Committee is being chaired by Lt. Kevin Ray, and is responsible for raising the necessary funds for MCLEA to continue our goals of representing the membership. The PAC Committee is responsible for all political actions of MCLEA, and is a big part of the Association.  We have not yet chosen a chairperson for that committee since that position requires not only a specific set of skills, but also a high level of dedication both to MCLEA members and Montgomery County as a whole.  The Scholarship Review Committee is responsible for reviewing scholarship applications received from the MCSO Academy Cadets and recommending action to the Officers and Directors, and is chaired by CSI Angelica “AJ” Galczynski.  We also formed a Membership Committee, whose job is to boost MCLEA membership within ALL of our member agencies, and is chaired by Communications Supervisor Benita Flowers. We formed a By-Laws Rewrite Committee, chaired by Detective Sgt Mike Traylor. MCLEA is a living organism which must grow and change with the times. Since we are bound by our by-laws, it is important that we revisit them from time to time and insure that they are current and applicable.  Many of you may have noticed that there are new posts on the MCLEA Facebook page. This is a result of our formation of a Social Media Committee, which is being chaired by Crime Analyst Tori Lowe. If you aren’t following the Facebook page, please do so. It is yet another avenue we use to keep you up to date. Our Meetings Committee is chaired by Sgt Donald Golsby, and is responsible for the setup and teardown of our meeting facilities before and after each stated meeting. The final committee created was the Salary Committee. This committee will be responsible for researching salary issues helping the Officers and Directors find workable solutions. The chairperson of this committee has not yet been selected. If you are interested in serving on any of our committees, please let us know and we will happily discuss it with you.  We also

introduced the new Sergeant At Arms, Investigator Cory Arnold with the Pct 4 Constable’s Office. His role is to maintain order and security at our meetings, and we welcome him.

One of the more exciting items on the agenda was the decision to redesign the MCLEA logo. Like the by-laws, our logo must change with our growth as an Association and must represent ALL of Montgomery County’s Law Enforcement Agencies.  It was decided that the designs should come from the membership of the Association, so I challenge each and every one of you to create a logo that you believe represents Montgomery County Law Enforcement as a whole, not just one agency. We ask that your design not be overly extravagant, represent the County and everyone in our member agencies, and should include the colors red, white, and blue in some manner.

We had representatives from CLEAT and TMPA in attendance, and each spoke about the services available to their respective members.  One point both organizations drove home was if you don’t have a current will, get one done as soon as possible. We can’t do much for our loved ones after we’re gone if the means and methods aren’t in place when we go!  Ms Dava Gordy (AFLAC representative) was also present to explain the benefits and coverages available to assist you in case of certain emergencies and accidents.  I want to thank each and every one of the Officers, Directors, and Committee Chairs who volunteer their personal time to serve this Association and its members. They each volunteered to be in these positions because they want to make a difference for us all, and their dedication will take the Association to new heights.

Once again, please make sure you are registered on the MCLEA website at www.mcleatx.org to insure you are receiving the most up to date information, and help us grow our membership by recruiting new members

Sincerely,

Paul S. Hahs Sr

President, MCLEA
